Fishing for Litter was established in Norway as a national test scheme in 2016-2017. The project initially counted 20 vessels in three participating harbours.
Five ports more ports joined during 2017, another in 2018 and two more in 2020. The scheme now includes a total of 11 participating ports along the Norwegian coast.
The project was founded by the Norwegian Environmental Agency and is administered by SALT Lofoten AS in collaboration with Nofir and local ports and waste management companies.
The ambition for 2021 is to collect minimum 210 tonnes of marine waste.
