BACKGROUND
Fishing for Litter first launched in Scotland in 2005. It has grown to include 20 harbours all over the country, with almost 300 vessels taking part.
The project is coordinated by KIMO UK. In the past funding was provided by Peterhead Port Authority, Tesco, Scottish Fishermen’s Trust, Ullapool Harbour Trust, Aberdeenshire Council and the European Union. Marine Scotland is currently providing interim funding to support the sceme.

“We have been happy over the years to help fund the Fishing for Litter scheme, through the Scottish Fishermen’s Trust. While the fishing industry accounts for a small percentage of marine litter, our 8 member associations have agreed to work towards 100% participation with Fishing for Litter, as an important adjunct to all the work going into protecting the marine environment.”
