The project started in 2018 in Athens but due to unforeseen operational challenges it was stopped.
In 2019, in collaboration with NGO iSea, the project was shifted to North Greece, to the areas of Thessaloniki (Michaniona) and Kavala where a significant percentage of the Greek fishing fleet is concentrated. During 2019, eight trawler fishermen participated. The total weight of waste collected and recorded amounts to 8,500 kg. More detail can be found in our report.
In 2020 the area of Alexandroupoli in North Greece was also included and fishermen trawlers reached eighteen. 671 logs were collected by fishermen during the period January – December. The total weight of waste collected and recorded amounts to 17,312 kg which consisted of more than 23,000 pieces. For more detail on the 2020 figures, please download our report.
In 2021 more regional areas were included (North East Aegean islands & Crete). At present (March 2021) thirty trawler fishermen and ten Greek ports are participating. The project is still open and accepting new registrations
