The ML-REPAIR Project, with funding from Interreg Italy-Croatia, looked to build upon the groundwork laid by the DeFishGear project. The project focused on reducing and preventing marine pollution. Some of this work took the form of educational tools for raising awareness about marine litter amongst tourists, school children and small businesses in coastal areas.
The other keystone of the project was, of course, Fishing for Litter. By actively encouraging the participation of the fisher community, improvements were made to marine litter monitoring and the removal of marine litter from the sea.
Colleagues, fishers from other ports – let’s try to help the sea because the sea gave us so much and never asked for anything in return. If you bring one bottle a day back to the port and you do not throw it back into the sea, you will have brought back 365 bottles in a year.Luca Binetti, Fisher from Molfetta, Italy
